JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in a variety of semi-instructional tasks and working in a general educational setting providing support to a student with significant disabilities within the classroom and around the building. Candidates must be able to assist with communication, scheduling, and modifications of curriculum and students may require toileting, feeding and lifting. Qualifications Education Completed 60 semester hours of college credit from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or passed the ETS ParaPro/WorkKeys assessment Educator License with Stipulations (ELS)PARA from the Will County Regional Office of Education is required Other Meets all mandated health requirements Documentation of a clear criminal record. Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies. Skills And Abilities Knowledge of curriculum materials and instructional techniques Initiative to follow through with assigned tasks Ability to maneuver students Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment. Demonstrates critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills and exhibits consistency, resourcefulness and resilience. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies. Organizes tasks and manages time effectively; completes paperwork accurately; verifies and correctly enters data. Demonstrates the skill and proficiency to manage student interactions, both individually and as a group. Effective communication skills using verbal, nonverbal, writing and listening skills. Averts problem situations and intervenes to resolve conflicts. Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Substitute Teacher Aides may need to stand for the majority of the day and may also sit for long periods. May be required to reach and or lift more than 25 pounds. Must speak and understand English proficiently. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is on an as needed basis and does not constitute a permanent position. Substitute Teacher Aides or the Valley View School District 365U can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice.
