Job Description MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Simultaneously, the coach must model behaviors that promote socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The coach should update knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. QUALIFICATIONS Ability to assist in organizing and supervising a total sports program under the direction of the head coach. Ability to continue the sports program in the absence of the head coach. Possesses substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continues to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions. REPORTS TO The head coach, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the athletic director and principals. SUPERVISES Assists the head coach with program operations under the head coach’s direction. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the head coach as needed with scheduling all practices and workouts. Supervise student conduct at all times during practices, games, etc. Ensure students meet all eligibility and transfer requirements. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the head coach. Assist head coach in accountability for all equipment and collect the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Monitor equipment rooms and coaches’ offices, authorizing who may enter. Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Be responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment. Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. Instill in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use. Share responsibility for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. Attend meetings at the request of the athletic director.
