Job Description University of Chicago Medicine invites applications for the role of Advanced Practice Provider in the Trauma Surgery Unit. The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management in the general medicine patient population. The APP will manage a caseload of patients and exercise autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The role also includes educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support, and administrative activities under the direction of the Director/leadership. Essential Job Functions Take patient history, conduct examinations, diagnose illness. Pre‑ and post‑operative patient evaluation and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests. Exercise autonomy in medical decision‑making, provide a broad range of diagnostics and therapeutic services. Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate care at an advanced level. Nurse Practitioner Qualifications Master’s of Science in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing Practice. Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration. Certification as an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Qualified for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers. Minimum of 2 years inpatient Trauma experience as a PA or NP. ATLS certification within a year from date of hire. AGACNP certification (FNP or ANP considered with relevant Trauma Surgery experience). Physician Assistant Qualifications Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Master’s program. Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois PA licensure/registration. Qualified for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers. Minimum of 2 years inpatient Trauma experience as a PA or NP. ATLS certification within a year from date of hire. AGACNP certification (FNP or ANP considered with relevant Trauma Surgery experience). Position Details Job Type/FTE: Registry (0.1 FTE). Shift: PRN. Unit/Department: Trauma Surgery.
